EHS Manager (Environmental, Health & Safety)

About the Role

Atlantic Casting & Engineering Corp. (ACE) is seeking an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead and strengthen our environmental, health, and safety programs within our metal manufacturing and aluminum investment casting operations.

This role is ideal for a hands-on EHS professional who is passionate about workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. The EHS Manager will play a key role in identifying and reducing workplace hazards, ensuring compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, and New Jersey regulations, and building a proactive safety culture across our manufacturing facility.

The successful candidate will maintain a visible presence on the production floor and work closely with management, supervisors, employees, Human Resources, Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance to promote safe work practices throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Regulatory Compliance

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive environmental, health, and safety programs.
• Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards.
• Conduct routine safety inspections, job hazard analyses, and risk assessments.
• Identify unsafe conditions and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Maintain OSHA records, safety documentation, and required postings.
• Monitor safety performance, establish key performance indicators (KPIs), and drive continuous improvement.

Manufacturing & Foundry Safety

• Identify and manage hazards associated with aluminum casting, molten metal, furnaces, machining, grinding, finishing, welding, and other manufacturing processes.
• Oversee safety programs related to machine guarding, lockout/tagout, personal protective equipment (PPE), powered industrial trucks, electrical safety, respiratory protection, and other applicable requirements.
• Evaluate workplace exposures involving noise, dust, fumes, chemicals, and other industrial hazards.
• Maintain PPE and Hazard Communication programs, including safety training, chemical inventories, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

Environmental Compliance

• Manage environmental compliance programs and applicable EPA and New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) requirements.
• Maintain environmental permits, records, registrations, and required reports.
• Oversee hazardous waste handling, storage, labeling, and disposal.
• Monitor applicable air emissions, stormwater, wastewater, and other environmental requirements.
• Identify opportunities to reduce waste and minimize environmental impact.

Incident Management & Employee Training

• Investigate workplace injuries, accidents, near misses, and property damage.
• Conduct root-cause analyses and ensure corrective actions are completed.
• Coordinate with Human Resources and the workers’ compensation carrier on workplace injuries and return-to-work processes.
• Develop and conduct safety training, including new-hire orientation, PPE, Hazard Communication, lockout/tagout, machine safety, emergency procedures, and other required topics.
• Maintain emergency action plans and coordinate emergency drills and response procedures.

Safety Culture & Continuous Improvement

• Promote employee engagement, hazard reporting, and proactive safety practices.
• Conduct safety meetings and collaborate with supervisors to improve safety performance.
• Develop initiatives that strengthen accountability and reduce workplace incidents.
• Support continuous improvement and Lean/5S initiatives throughout the facility.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3–5+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and general industry safety requirements.
• Experience conducting safety inspections, incident investigations, and root-cause analyses.
• Experience developing and delivering employee safety training.
• Working knowledge of PPE, Hazard Communication, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and industrial safety programs.
• Strong communication, organizational, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively with employees and leaders at all levels of the organization.
• Ability to regularly work on the manufacturing floor and safely navigate an industrial environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in foundry, metal casting, aluminum casting, machining, aerospace, or defense manufacturing.
• Experience managing environmental compliance and hazardous waste programs.
• Experience with industrial hygiene and employee exposure monitoring.
• Familiarity with AS9100 or aerospace manufacturing environments.
• OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification.
• ASP, CSP, CIH, CHMM, or other relevant EHS certification.
• Experience with ISO 14001 or OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP).
• Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.

Work Environment

This position operates primarily within a manufacturing and foundry environment and requires regular presence on the production floor. The work environment includes exposure to high temperatures, molten aluminum operations, industrial machinery, noise, metal dust, chemicals, solvents, grinding, finishing, welding, and material-handling equipment.

The EHS Manager must be comfortable working directly with production teams, wearing required personal protective equipment, and consistently modeling safe work practices.
